If you own a Lenovo ThinkBook 16 G7 (QOY) and suddenly your HDMI port has stopped working, you’re not alone. A recent Lenovo update released on May 13, 2025, has caused HDMI output to break on many ThinkBook 16 G7 laptops — often accompanied by Error Code 43 in Windows Device Manager.
Here’s what’s happening and how to fix it.
What’s the Problem?
The May 13, 2025 update installs a new driver for the Qualcomm Adreno X1-45 GPU.
The new driver is broken, leaving HDMI non-functional.
Windows reports: “Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43).”
External monitors stay blank, and your laptop doesn’t detect them.
Solution STEP 1 – Open Device Manager
Press Windows + X and choose Device Manager.
Expand Display adapters.
Right-click Qualcomm Adreno X1-45 (or similar) and select Update driver.
STEP 2 – Choose to Browse for Driver
Click Browse my computer for drivers.
STEP 3 – Pick From Available Drivers
Click Let me pick from a list of available drivers on my computer.
This shows all installed driver versions for your GPU.
STEP 4 – Select Older Driver
Look through the list for the older driver version (before May 13, 2025).
Select it and click Next.
Windows will install the older driver.
✅ Tip: Check driver dates. Older drivers usually have earlier release dates.
STEP 5 – Reboot
Restart your laptop.
After reboot, HDMI should work again.
STEP 6 – Test HDMI
Connect your HDMI cable.
Go to Display Settings → Multiple displays.
Choose to extend or duplicate your screen.
STEP 7 – Block the Faulty Update
To stop Windows or Lenovo from reinstalling the broken driver:
Open Lenovo Vantage or Lenovo System Update.
Find the May 13, 2025 System Hardware Update.
Mark it as hidden or choose Do not install.
💡 Important Notes
Keep checking Lenovo’s website or forums for a newer driver that solves the problem.
Rolling back to the older driver is the only confirmed fix.
